Math shouldn't feel like a foreign language, yet for many students, it does. My career has been dedicated to bridging that gap. I hold a B.Sc. (Hons) in Mathematics from the University of Greenwich, where I earned First Class results in Simulation and Modelling and in Vector Calculus and Number Theory, and an M.S. in Mathematics from Loyola University Chicago, with graduate coursework in Mathematical Modeling, Applied Regression Analysis, Complex Analysis, and Advanced Linear Algebra. This gives me the technical depth to handle advanced graduate-level statistics, calculus, and programming in R and Python, while my four years at Dwight School Seoul taught me how to connect with learners at the Kindergarten level and everywhere in between.
I don't believe in one-size-fits-all instruction. From 2021 to 2022, I served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant in Calculus at the Rochester Institute of Technology, supporting four undergraduate sections through workshops, office hours, and one-on-one help. That role taught me the "diagnostic" approach — identifying the specific breakdown in a student's logic and rebuilding from the ground up with worked examples. From 2022 to 2024 I tutored math and statistics one on one and in small groups at Loyola University Chicago, working with students from college algebra through graduate-level coursework.
Before graduate school, I spent four years at Dwight School Seoul teaching mathematics and physical education from Kindergarten through Grade 11, and delivering structured after-school tutoring in IB Mathematics at both Standard and Higher Levels. I was also trained as a certified special education instructor and provided individualized one-on-one support for a student with autism, which gave me the tools to adapt explanations for neurodivergent learners. My approach is patient and tailored — I start by figuring out what a student actually understands, then build the smallest bridge to the next concept. I'm happy to tutor in either English or Korean.
