Hello, I am Michael. I graduated from undergrad with three Bachelor's degrees, in Mathematics, Chemistry, and Psychology. I then had a brief stint tutoring at an agency, and moved on to get a Master's in mathematics. After teaching Calculus for some time, I then returned to tutoring. The agency I worked with specialized in helping students from less fortunate backgrounds, although we saw all sorts of students. I have worked with elementary students seeking a challenge, middle school students struggling with fractions, high school students trying to raise their ACT score into the 30's, college students in Organic Chemistry, and even adults perhaps studying for a return to college, just to name a few. I believe the age range of my past students is from 5 to 65 at the moment.

I have tutored many subjects; to list them all would be excessive. At the agency I worked with, I frequently handled "unusual cases" that came. As one example, I once helped a student with their thesis in Criminal Justice (which I saw as a writing student). However, I would say that I specialize in Mathematics (of all levels: Elementary, Middle, Algebra, Geometry, Precalculus, Statistics, Calculus, Linear Algebra, all the way up to and past preparation for the GRE Math Subject test; basically, if you need help with math, try contacting me and we can see if I can help), Chemistry, Writing, and test prep (e.g., ACT, SAT, GRE, GRE Math, LSAT, and at least parts of the MCAT as well as many more).

Throughout my now over a decade of experience tutoring, I have developed a particular style that tends to focus around a student's individual needs. I have noticed that educational systems are usually lacking, and people can easily get left by the wayside. Thus it is important to find where a student may have gotten lost. This means that my lessons tend to be quite tailored to the specific student; it is difficult to describe a general form. Feel free to reach out: I would be happy to talk at length, answering any questions or concerns you may have.

ACT English

ACT English

I have a Master's in Mathematics and three Bachelor's degrees, and have tutored the ACT (all sections) for many years. Students have seen great success, whether in a short cram session or a longer course of study (although, of course, a longer time period will see greater results). My methods are tailored to the student, so it is difficult to give a brief overview; I would be happy to discuss options, so feel free to reach out. Although of questionable relevance, I did score a 36 back when I took the ACT.
ACT Math

ACT Math

I have a Master's in Mathematics, and have tutored the ACT (all sections) for many years.

ACT Science

Students have seen great success, whether in a short cram session or a longer course of study (although, of course, a longer time period will see greater results). Algebra 2

Algebra 2

I have a Master's in Mathematics, where I specialized in Algebra. I enjoy teaching algebra; I find it fun, and I hope that my enthusiasm is expressed to my students. I have worked with students of all ages and situations, and thus have developed many different approaches. Really, I just enjoy talking about math, so please reach out and we can see if I am able to help.
ASVAB

ASVAB

I have a Master's in Mathematics, and three Bachelor's degrees (in Math, Chemistry, and Psychology). I have tutored for the ASVAB before, although my focus has tended to be on the core tests (AR, WK, PC, MK). My background gives me the ability to help with GS and AO as well, and parts of MC and EI. If you are looking for an explicit tutor for the EI, AS, and MC sections, then it is possible that I would not be the best fit: However, I have helped with those sections before, and I would be happy to discuss your particular situation, so feel free to reach out.
Calculus

Calculus

I have a Master's in Mathematics, and have taught Calculus at University. I have experience with the common different approaches to calculus, be it a course focused on computation or a more proof-theoretic method (or AP Calculus, or multivariate calculus: Please reach out with your particular question and we can discuss). Although calculus courses can feel like a lot of 'tricks' and 'memorization', I have experience in distilling the many different topics into the core ideas. In general, I enjoy talking about calculus and finding new ways to explain the ideas to students.
Chemistry

Chemistry

I have a Bahcelor's in Chemistry, and a Master's in Mathematics. I have tutored high school chemistry, (undergraduate) general chemistry, and (introductory) organic chemistry (as well as a limited number of higher-level topics). Given my math education, my methods tend towards a mathematical perspective; this can provide a great contrast with some traditional methods, giving a new perspective that students have tended to find enlightening. Feel free to reach out: I enjoy teaching chemistry, and would be happy to discuss your situation.
Differential Equations

Differential Equations

I have a Master's in Mathematics, with a specialization in Algebraic Geometry. This gives a unique perspective on Differential Equations, which tends to be associated with Analysis instead. If you desire help with an introductory course, or a course on ordinary differential equations, then I am sure I can provide assistance. If you instead need help with a more advanced course, feel free to reach out and we can discuss whether I can provide help: I enjoy talking about math, and would be happy to dsicuss your particular situation.
Geometry

Geometry

I have a Master's in Mathematics. The standard high school geometry course can be quite unusual for students, a strange pivot from previous mathematics instruction. I have helped many students through this, and would be happy to discuss your situation. As an aside, if you found this page due to seeking out higher-level Geometry tutoring, I also have experience in Algebraic Geometry, Differential Geometry, and Riemannian Geometry: As with all advanced mathematics topics, I recommend contacting me to see if I am able to help.
GRE

GRE

I have a Master's in Mathematics, and three Bachelor's degrees. I have tutored for the GRE (all sections of the general, as well as the Mathematics Subject Test), and have seen significant improvement. Although my specialization would be the quantitative section, I can provide unique insights to the verbal section and quite enjoy the analytical writing section. To the extent that it is relevant, my score when I took the exam was 167 Verbal, 170 Quantitative, and 5.5 Writing.
Linear Algebra

Linear Algebra

I have a Master's in Mathematics, with a specialization in Algebraic Geometry. Thus, my perspective on the topic of Linear Algebra tends to be pictorial in nature: My adviser always said that if you can't draw a picture (of a mathematical topic), then you don't understand it. That being said, Linear Algebra is one of the most fundamental topics of advanced mathematics, and thus I have extensive experience with all of its elements and have helped with multiple such courses at the University-level. Please, feel free to reach out and I would be happy to discuss your particular situation.
LSAT

LSAT

I have a Master's in Mathematics. Now you may question why this is relevant, but math majors are among the highest scorers on the LSAT due to its high focus on logical reasoning. I find the LSAT to be the most fun standardized test that I have tutored, and would be happy to talk about the test with you. Although I have never officially sat for the exam, I have tutored many students; I have also taken 'practice tests' under 'exam conditions' and got perfect scores, to the extent that this is relevant.
Precalculus

Precalculus

I have a Master's in Mathematics, and have helped teach Precalcululs courses at a University. I have a lot of opinions about the usual 'Precalculus' course, as taught in high school; it tends to be a hodgepodge of material. That being said, I have helped many students wade through the trenches, pulling out common themes and digging down to show them what is actually important. If you need help, please reach out and we can discuss the approach that I believe would be best: I really just enjoy talking about math, and would be happy to give any advice I can.
SAT Math

SAT Math

I have a Master's in Mathematics, and have tutored the SAT for many years. Students have seen great success, whether in a short cram session or a longer course of study (although, of course, a longer time period will see greater results). My methods are tailored to the student, so it is difficult to give a brief overview; I would be happy to discuss options, so feel free to reach out. Although of questionable relevance, I did score an 800 back when I took the SAT Math.
