A dynamic tutor here! I am qualified in many subject areas including English, Spanish and Psychology. I have been tutor for over 5 years now in both online and in-person formats.

My method of tutoring incorporates books that the students all ready has as well as supplementary worksheets. I am cognizant of different learning styles and do my best to accommodate all styles whether visual, auditory or kinesthetic.

I minored in Spanish during my university days. I keep up the language by organizing two meetup groups. I also ran an after school program teaching Spanish to kindergarten to second graders. My level is advanced intermediate/proficient. I am comfortable tutoring adults and children at the beginning, intermediate or beginning advanced level.

Initial Offerings Above Expectations

I've only had 3 tutoring sessions with Melissa so far, and inasmuch as I have never worked with a tutor before either, these comments may be a bit premature. Having said that, I feel the sessions have been above expectations. As an adult learner, I am anxious, out of practice, and easily frustrated, but Melissa has done a great job keeping me reined in and on task. I was expecting vocabulary, and got grammar, which is, of course, the correct way to approach a new language initially. Melissa is experienced, thoughtful, and very supportive, and always comes prepared, with new ideas and resources. Melissa also leaves time to respond to questions I have, mostly from things I didn't process from the week before (did I say adult learner?), as constant review is a good thing and I need it. I am planning on working with her for as long as it takes to meet my goal of competently speaking the Spanish language.

Great teacher

Melissa is great teacher. She is kind, so I can relax around her. I was having a difficult time understanding English with my poor vocabulary. She taught me many new words and American idioms. I believe that I need more basic skills, but now I know how to express my feelings. It's big progress for me!
