I'm a junior at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign studying Finance and Accountancy at the Gies College of Business, where I carry a 3.96 GPA. My coursework spans financial and managerial accounting, corporate finance, business statistics, and financial markets, and I've gone beyond the classroom through competitive finance organizations on campus, including an investment banking case competition and a portfolio management group where I researched and pitched a real equity position. That combination of rigorous coursework and applied work means I understand not just how to solve the problem, but why the concept exists in the first place.
My approach to tutoring centers on that distinction. Most students struggling with accounting or finance aren't struggling with the math; they're struggling with the logic underneath it. I slow down on the "why" until it clicks, then work through problems together rather than just demonstrating them. I've applied this method informally with peers throughout my first two years: walking classmates through debits and credits, bond valuation, hypothesis testing, and time value of money calculations, particularly around midterm and final exam cycles. I'm comfortable working one-on-one and adjusting my pace to each student.
Beyond academics, I interned at Pan American Bank & Trust in Chicago, where I worked across commercial real estate lending, small business lending, and lines of credit, and supervised interns on a loan digitization project.
