Deaf Tutor for American Sign Language/Deaf Culture

I am deaf and ASL is my native language. I graduated from Michigan School for the Deaf in 2008. I have been tutoring Interpreting Training students at National Technical Institute for Deaf from 2012 thru 2016. I moved to Florida and attended Eastern Florida State College from 2017 through 2019 where I was required to take an ASL course as foreign language. My ASL professor, who is deaf, taught me so many techniques for teaching ASL students. I became his teaching assistant for 2 years. I have taught over 40 ASL students during my time. After 2019, I moved to Idaho after graduation to become Deaf Interpreter. I continue to tutor ASL students nationally online today.

I am a proactive professional who has been consistently praised as efficient by my students. Over the course of my 12-year career, I've developed a skill set directly relevant to the American Sign Language Tutor role you are hiring for, including instructional techniques, performance evaluation and lectures. Overall, I have consistently demonstrated language, interpersonal and organizational abilities in every aspect of my American Sign Language tutor role. I have worked with middle school through college students for 12 years via online.

I will doing some warm up activities before starting lessons to get know where students stand. I will review their assignments to prepare a lesson effectively. I will show every aspect of signing to students so they would understand how to sign properly. At the same time, I do encourage them not to overdo their signing. I will also provide students with a few pointers about Deaf cultures to help them understand the meaning of ASL.
