Hi there! I'm Lynda, a Junior at the University of Idaho, majoring in Biochemistry and Microbiology. I have tutored for three years, with one-on-one, study group, and classroom experience. I support everything from elementary school math to college level calculus and microbiology. I love working with students to understand the "why" behind learning and tie theory to practice.
I have experience doing microbiological research in an academic setting and can bring a unique perspective that illuminates the practical applications of theory-heavy subjects such as math, biology, and chemistry. My goal is to make traditionally difficult classes enjoyable and attainable.
My tutoring style is heavily dependent upon the EDGE method - Explain, Demonstrate, Guide, and Empower. Tutoring can seem incredibly daunting, and oftentimes we don't know where to start! As such, I like to give an overview of the topic of interest for that session and determine any gaps in understanding. Then, I will demonstrate how I would solve the problem so that the student and I can further build comprehension. Third, the student and I will go over a similar problem together. Finally, I will step back and allow the student to teach me how to do a problem covering the topic we've been going over. Of course, this is flexible depending upon comprehension, comfortability, and student preference!
