I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Lewis-Clark State College and have completed additional graduate-level coursework focused on literacy and structured reading instruction. I am a certified elementary teacher with over 15 years of experience working with students in kindergarten through fourth grade. I have also completed advanced training in dyslexia and structured literacy through IMSE and related professional development, which has strengthened my ability to provide targeted, research-based reading instruction.

My teaching experience includes both classroom instruction and small group intervention, with a strong focus on phonics, reading comprehension, and foundational math skills. I regularly use explicit, systematic teaching methods aligned with the science of reading, including modeling, guided practice, and immediate feedback. I also incorporate data-driven decision making by using assessment results to tailor instruction and monitor student progress over time. My approach is structured but engaging, ensuring students build confidence while mastering key skills.

I have worked with a wide range of learners, including struggling readers, students with dyslexia, and students needing enrichment. Most of my experience is in a classroom setting, but I also provide one-on-one and small group support to address individual learning needs. My goal is to create a supportive and focused learning environment where students feel successful and make measurable academic growth.

Common Core

Common Core

I am trained in Common Core standards through my classroom teaching experience, where I align daily instruction, assessments, and learning targets to grade-level expectations. I use these standards to guide lesson design in reading, writing, and math, ensuring students build the skills required for proficiency. I regularly analyze student data to adjust instruction and support mastery of specific standards. My experience includes implementing Common Core in both whole group and small group settings to meet diverse student needs.
Dyslexia

Dyslexia

I have completed formal training through the Institute for Multi-Sensory Education in the Comprehensive Orton-Gillingham Plus program (30 hours), which focuses on structured, multisensory literacy instruction . This training equips me to deliver explicit, systematic phonics instruction aligned with the science of reading. I use IMSE strategies to teach phonological awareness, decoding, and encoding skills in a clear, sequential way that supports all learners, especially those with reading difficulties. I apply this training in both classroom and intervention settings, working with struggling readers and students with dyslexia. My instruction is highly structured, data-driven, and responsive to student progress, ensuring targeted skill development and measurable growth.
