Homeschool Math Mentor with Master's in Math from Texas A&M

Hi, I'm Maura! I began tutoring Math when I was in high school, helping fellow students get back on track in their classes. In college, where I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Math and Theology, I tutored fellow students as well as children of the professors as a homeschool math instructor.

After earning my bachelor's degree, I went on to get a Master's in Mathematics at Texas A&M University, with an emphasis on teaching mathematics. While there I was a Teacher's Assistant for entry level college math classes, helping answer students questions and teaching concepts that students needed extra help understanding.

I continued tutoring Math to homeschooled students in my young adult years. Fast forward 20 years and I've now got that many years of teaching my own 8 children math, 3 of whom have now gone on to college. I have especially enjoyed teaching them high school math. While doing that, I've also managed the business side of our small family ranch where we raise and sell grass fed beef, applying my knowledge in mathematics to running a business.

I think good math teachers... or tutors.... are a tremendous help in succeeding mathematics. So many people who say that they do not like math as a subject really just had a poor experience in a math class at some point and fell behind. Often they continued to struggle because of the way mathematical concepts build on each other. With proper assistance, a good tutor can help a student stay on track or get back on their feet once they've fallen behind. Thus their struggle in math can be a moment as opposed to a life long battle. It's amazing what a little help at the right time can do to help someone gain the confidence they need to succeed in Math!
