During my time in college, I discovered a deep passion for helping students learn and succeed—it gave me a sense of purpose and fulfillment. As I progressed through my studies and gained classroom experience, I began to recognize the importance of supporting all students, especially those who need extra attention. While student teaching, I often found myself working one-on-one with students, providing individualized support while the lead teacher led the class.
After graduating and leading my own 6th-grade classroom, I realized how challenging it can be to give every student the personalized help they deserve. Stepping out of the classroom has only strengthened my desire to reach those students who may be falling through the cracks—those who need a little more time, encouragement, and individualized attention to thrive.
I spent two years in a 4th-grade classroom, which I loved because it allowed for daily face-to-face interaction and the opportunity to connect with students on a personal level. Following that, I taught my own class of 6th graders for a year, which was an incredibly rewarding experience that deepened my understanding of teaching and student development.
