I am a retired structural engineer and the ideal tutor for those who want to satisfactorily complete the structural engineering requirements of their major. And for those who desire to specialize in structural engineering as a career path and have aspirations to pass the FE and PE exams. Students who have used my tutoring assistance in the past are engineering, construction, and architecture majors.
Extensive experience in tutoring structural analysis, steel design, concrete design, structural dynamics, and overall building behavior under gravity, wind, and seismic loading. Having gone to graduate school in structural engineering and designed numerous buildings, I bring real world experience as well as academic help to the student.

To be successful in structural engineering, a solid proficiency in engineering math and engineering mechanics is necessary. I have tutored students in the prerequisite courses of calculus, differential equations, statics, dynamics, mechanics of materials (solid mechanics and deformable bodies), and fluid mechanics. Most frequently requested math subject is differential equations sometimes with LaPlace Transforms and Linear Algebra.
In helping engineering students succeed, I clarify and simplify the difficult concepts the student is struggling with. Students often comment that I make things much simpler and easier. I relate the current material to future course work or current practices in industry which motivates the students to work harder to achieve success. For conscientious students, I have generally raised the grade by one letter and sometimes two letters. I have saved dozens of students from repeating courses.

For those aspiring to licensing as a professional engineer, I tutor students preparing to take the FE Exams (Fundamentals of Engineering). I also tutor the Civil PE/Structural Emphasis, the Structural PE, the CA Civil Surveying Exam, and the CA Civil Seismic Exam. Tutoring is keyed to the needs of the students in both content and level of detail.

Civil Engineering

Civil Engineering

Academically, I obtained a BS Degree in Civil Engineering, an MS Degree in Structural Engineering, and an additional MS Degree in Civil Engineering (Environmental). During my professional career, I was licensed as a Professional Engineer in eleven states and one Canadian province. For over 45 years, I have been a practicing engineer or engineering manager. My engineering design work involved many different types of buildings and structural elements. The engineering design work, particularly building design, relied heavily on statics and mechanics of materials as well as structural design courses. My engineering management duties involved leading many disciplines including civil, mechanical, electrical, and environmental to achieve a project’s design criteria. As far as tutoring, my expertise lies in statics, dynamics, mechanics of materials, structural analysis, concrete design, structural steel design, wood design, masonry design, advanced mechanics of materials, matrix methods, structural dynamics, and other upper level structural engineering courses. Recently I have helped several people with individualized programs to prepare for the Civil FE Exam and Mechanical FE Exam, the Civil PE-Structural, the Structural PE, and the California Special Seismic and Surveying exams.
Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical Engineering

Academically, I obtained a BS Degree in Civil Engineering, an MS Degree in Civil Engineering (Structures), and an additional MS Degree in Civil Engineering (Environmental). During my professional career, I was licensed as a Professional Engineer in eleven states and one Canadian province. For over 45 years, I have been a practicing engineer or engineering manager. My expertise lies in statics, dynamics, mechanics of solids, structural analysis, physics (mechanics) , advanced mechanics of materials and mechanical vibrations. In machine design, I am quite experienced in the stress analysis aspects of the course. In tutoring, I build upon the student's mathematical background and demonstrate how it applies to engineering problems. Where math skills are deficient, I take the time to add extra math or reinforce math to make the current course work easier. If the opportunity presents itself, I relate the current content to applications in future courses. Recently I have helped people with some parts of the Mechanical FE and Mechanical PE Exam.

Knowledgeable, precise, patient and outstanding.

Knowledgeable, patient, and provides not only concise but easily understandable and digestible explanations for any questions you might have. In addition, he provides more information that you may need for any related courses that aren't the main for your session but will definitely help you later on in the courses you'll eventually take.
