Hello!
I'm Crystal. I have a B.S. in Environmental Science and Biology, with a minor in Geology, from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. While attending university, I tutored students in zoology, botany, and geology. I was a Lab Assistant for 1 year as well, and a member of BBB (biology honors) and SGE (geology honors). Additionally, I served as member of CHAOS (Cooper Hall Ambassador's of Science), where I gave lectures to school groups on local paleontology and the scientific method.
After graduation, I volunteered as a naturalist and teaching assistant at Asbury Woods Nature Center in Erie, PA. I gained experience there teaching students ages pre-K through adulthood about local flora, fauna, and the science associated with local history. I also worked as Zookeeper at the Erie Zoo. This opportunity also included teaching a little bit about ecology, diet, zoology, and animal behavior to anyone interested.
The past three years I was employed as an Environmental Scientist. There I focused strongly on statistics, ecology, botany, and regulation. I am now a staff member at Idaho State University, in a supervisory role at the Anatomy and Physiology Labs in Meridian. There I will be teaching and tutoring a bit this spring.
I was drawn back to academia, because I love learning and teaching. Nothing makes me happier than seeing a student grow and gain confidence in their skills. I truly believe that there really are no limitations to what can be accomplished if you are willing to learn and be flexible; regardless of background, economic status, or life obstacles. If a student knows they have support in any form, knows their strengths, and is willing to embrace and work on their weaknesses, the sky really is the limit.
I have a well-rounded background in the natural and physical sciences. I regularly forage and have conducted numerous biological and botanical surveys, conducted field research for years (biology, geology, and botany), and have an intimate knowledge of how the sciences intermingle in
