Brigham Young University BSME (Mechanical Engineer)
Light hearted tutoring focused on your needs from a mechanical engineer who learned it the hard way. We will pinpoint where you need help using diagnostic quizzes, videos, and sample problems, building your skills, speed, and confidence to reach your goals.
I graduated from Brigham Young University with a BS in Mechanical Engineering and a Math minor. My engineering major required courses in Chemistry, Physics, Thermodynamics, Statics, Fluids, besides Calculus, Linear Algebra, Numerical Analysis, and Multivariable Optimization.
I have always loved being a teacher. I taught as a volunteer in Bolivia for 2 years and later went with my family to Guatemala for 6 months to teach in an elementary school. I have tutored English deficient high school students in all subjects and taught English and Spanish courses in my community. I have also taught Junior High Wood Shop, Technology, and PE, and have served as a BSA Scoutmaster and High School Track coach and gymnastics coach.
I remember being in your shoes - not even knowing the right questions to ask to get the help I needed from professors that didn't have time to teach their classes well, let alone to privately guide a struggling student.
I also remember when it "clicked" in my brain! Sometime during my first calculus class I realized that I really understood algebra and trigonometry! It felt good and I have really enjoyed helping others find their way through it.
I will show you what you need to do, which is usually a lot of work on your part between tutoring sessions. I will help you through the difficult parts until you know you are ready for that exam that is so important for your career. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
