Actuarial Science

Actuarial Science

I am an ACAS (Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society) and have taught the first actuarial science course at Drake University in the past.
Finite Math

Finite Math

Regarding my qualifications to tutor in finite math, I have experience tutoring on functions, linear regression and applications. I have also tutored systems of equations and linear programming successfully. I taught probability, random variables, and set theory at Drake University twice. I have a sufficient understanding of linear algebra, having taken two courses in the subject in college, but it is a topic that doesn't come up every day. With regards to finance, I got an A in an MBA finance course and also have passed actuarial exams relating to interest theory. I will certainly be able to tutor the subject matter in finite math.
Microsoft Excel

Microsoft Excel

25 years of experience in Excel for probably a third of all my working hours
Probability

Probability

I have taught probability classes for actuarial science majors at Drake University in the past. Basic probability has also been a topic within introductory statistics classes I have taught.
Statistics

Statistics

I have taught introductory statistics classes at Drake University and a local community college in the past. Topics covered calculation of important values, probability, central limit theorem, and hypothesis testing using Normal, T, F, and Chi-square distributions.

Excellent Tutor!

We have been very pleased with Richard's tutoring! Our daughter is developing the skills she was lacking all due to the time he has spent with her. We are very happy with our choice! Update: In just a few weeks of tutoring our daughter's Algebra grade has already gone up!! Thanks Richard!

Knowledgeable and experienced

I highly recommend Richard. He has a deep understanding of statistics and business analytics. Is patient and breaks concepts and formulas down so they are easier to understand.

Knowledgeable and Patient Tutor

I covered several topics with Richard, including regression, variation and visualizations in Excel. The nice thing about having Richard as a tutor is he is a highly qualified and educated man who truly enjoys the topic of Statistics which at the MBA level is referred to as business analytics. At times he was tougher on reviewing homework problems with me than even my own professor was but that worked in my favor because come quiz time it ultimately helped me get a better grade on my quizzes. He breaks things down in a very simple manner making the topics very easy to understand.

Knowledgable tutor

Richard took his time to get to know my daughter. She is very shy and afraid to ask questions. Richard helped her open up about what she did not understand and explained it to her the way where she could ask questions on her own. She will still get lessons with him because how she said it” i only understand geometry when he explains it to me”. Thank You Richard

Wonderful tutor

He helped me understand a topic I thought I'd never understand. He was patient and spent a lot of time on each of the topics. I will definitely continue to utilize his services. He also didn't make me feel insecure about not understanding things.

The kinks rich

Richard gave my son some confidence and his grade improved. I will continue to use rich to get my son through the last few tests of algebra 2. I would consider rich. He is very accommodative.

Knowledgable. Helped me with problems no one else could.

Reinforced the importance of thinking # of successes over # of outcomes. The tricky part is setting that up correctly. I need to find simpler ways to solve problems. I also should read through a problem first real quick, understand it, then break it down. I gained greater context of using combinations in a card setting. I also learned that I should formulate my questions better maybe beforehand. Specifically I also learned to write down the concept in english and then going from there instead of remembering formulas.

Above and Beyond

I reached out to Richard on a Sunday night to help my daughter with AP Calculus AB and when he realized they had a poor connection, he offered to come to our home because she had a test the next day and was in desperate need of help. He was at our house from 9 - 11 PM! Unbelievable. A huge shout out and thanks.

Excellent problem solver!

I really enjoyed Richard's tutorial on how to bypass lengthy steps to get straight to the results and build a representative graph used for statistical analyses. I highly recommend Richard!
