Hi! I'm Joss! I'm a recent graduate of my university with a plethora of interests, including a History Major, World Religions Minor, and Creative Writing minor to accompany my Graphic Communications Degree; I've dipped into a lot of fields! I believe strongly in there being overlap between all subjects, both in skill and interest. A love of reading can absolutely translate into a skill in typesetting, and a passion for sports and physical activity can be shaped into an amazing essay if you look for the connections between something new and what you already love. I've worked with youth and peers for years now, and volunteered at my local library's YA program since 2012 along with helping with hebrew school at my local synagogue off and on.
My one truest love is fiction writing, especially fairy tales, mythology (hello crossover with my History and Religions degrees!) and fantastical fiction. I'm a published author and I've pulled down a reward or two just in the short time I've been in the field thanks to great mentors and teachers, and I'm excited to share the things that have brought me success. My specialties are high school and college essays, focusing on filling in the gaps in a students knowledge and finding that sticking point where their brain might not quite be letting essay writing 'click'.
I've been working with InDesign for eight years now, and have done everything from branding a small museum to creating a poetry magazine for my university to doing posters for local art exhibitions. My portfolio is available upon request. I remember just how boring some of my old InDesign drills were, and have a lesson plan for my own tutoring revolving entirely around the students interests to make all lessons more engaging. We'll work together to create things you care about and want to keep after. My job isn't just to teach you how to use a piece of software, it's to help you build a portfolio and give you the tools you'll need to be good at this stuff in the future!
