Hello everyone! I am Paul, a USMD medicine resident (and later, heme/onc hopefully!). In medical school, I achieved honors in 5/7 of our rotations. Here is a little of my background in writing and teaching/tutoring Step 2 CK:

Hello everyone! I am Paul, a USMD medicine resident (and later, heme/onc hopefully!). In medical school, I achieved honors in 5/7 of our rotations. Here is a little of my background in writing and teaching/tutoring Step 2 CK:

I wrote Step 2 after an intense 3 week dedicated study block post family medicine shelf. While my knowledge of subject matter improved during this time, my ability to critically analyze the questions and refinement of how I approached questions is what boosted my score by about 15-20 points. During this time, and immediately after, I tutored a few of my medical student colleagues who were taking later than I, and they scored above the 250s (one reaching 259)! Since then, I have been tutoring to help others achieve the same.

I typically start by understanding the goals of those I tutor. What score are we trying to achieve? From there, I assess several skills/abilities: knowledge base, thought process, test-taking ability, and confidence. From my experience, these 4 elements have made huge differences in outcomes for myself and those I tutor. Based on my assessment, we will schedule sessions as needed and primarily focus on working through USMLE style questions (typically Uworld, Amboss, NBME). I can and will provide content refreshers as needed.

Approved Subjects

Epidemiology

Epidemiology

I have a BS in Biology from the University of California, Irvine. Most importantly, I am in medical school and studying elements of epidemiology including risk factors for a variety of diseases. I am excelling more and more in my ability to understand and teach epidemiology, and have taught my classmates on frequent occasion.
Genetics

Genetics

I have a BS in Biology from the University of California, Irvine achieving honors in the subject. Additionally, I am in medical school and studying elements of genetics including risk factors for cancer. Overall, I can tutor at any level of genetics - high school, college, and graduate level.
MCAT

MCAT

I tested and took the MCAT and scored a 515 (94th percentile, I believe). My knowledge of test-taking strategies in the area has not only led to my success on the MCAT, but also on a variety of tests past that, including the USMLE's Step 1 and Step 2. Through medical school, I have maintained my knowledge across a variety of MCAT topics and can confidently teach students and guide them through their test-preparation experience.
Personal Statements

Personal Statements

I have experience, not just through my own applications to medical school and residency, but also as a member of a selection committee at my medical school. I have worked with students to improve their application statements in the past and am now looking to do so on this platform. I can help with any level - college, medical school, and residency.
USMLE

USMLE

I scored a 264 on USMLE Step 2 CK (85th-90th percentile) after an intense dedicated study period. I have also tutored several of my colleagues who scored 250+, including a 259. With my experience, I have identified several aspects of test-taking that directly affected my and my colleagues' scores, and I am comfortable helping others improve in their knowledge base, thought process, test-taking ability, and confidence.

Very thorough and encouraging

Paul was great. The material I’m learning for Pathophysiology is much denser than I anticipated, and Paul went 1.5 hours overtime to make sure we got through it with a thorough understanding. He broke down and explained complex concepts in simple terms, and even provided lots of visuals and graphics that he chose before hand to illustrate the concepts. I’m very pleased with our session.
