A graduate of Iowa schools (Cedar Falls Public HS, SCI, UNI) I studied as well at Universities of Cincinnati, Illinois, and elsewhere before earning my doctorate of Carnegie-Mellon. Authoring numerous books including over 30 on the English language, grammar, writing, and interpreting literature, I continue to write and publish, when not teaching.

I have taught students as young as 4, and as old as 89, with excellent results. I have taught English as a foreign language and worked at helping all students to think critically, investigate and produce a publishable piece. This is my life when I am not playing with my four dogs, tending my garden, are planting and caring for flowers or working in my modest vineyard.

I have written and taught all aspects of the English language: grammar, literature, reading, vocabulary, and the powers of critical thinking both in the USA, Peru, and Europe: in universities (Universidad Cesar Vallejo, Universidad Senor Sipan; University of San Diego [CA], Mauna Olu College, etc.], governments (Ministerio Turismo y Comercio; Banco Continental, Backus, etc.), and businesses (Sike, Merke, etc.). The key to success is a well-rounded, broad education.

I am available to help students who are interested and prepared to learn. Contact me for further details.

American History

An earned Ph.D. coupled with several published books on a plethora of English subjects, with examples from classroom conversations with students, prepared me to teach more thoroughly than any education course. It is subject matter mastery that counts, not entertaining students, that develops scholars of each generation. When standards are lowered and teachers teach only for a paycheck, the students are hurt and society fails. I am committed to excellence in education first, and nothing else matters.
Reading

Reading

I have taught at various levels, and privately, all basic English skills, including reading, writing, analysis, comprehension and interpretation. Studies are buttressed with an incorporation of mastering grammar, spelling, and related fields (e.g. syntax, style, and so forth). This results not only in a thorough understanding of the subject but the appreciation of learning. My experience includes tutoring one student at a time as well as groups and classrooms at all levels of learning from elementary school through the university and post-graduate centers. Lessons are developed on the age and ability and need of each student, and not the grade level in a school.
