About Samantha

Bio

I am Samantha and grew up using two languages for communication along with passing all of my classes with good grades. I ended up with a GPA of 3.7 when I graduated from Ottumwa High School and currently have a GPA of 3.8 at the university I am attending. As a college senior working towards my Bachelor's degree in American Sign Language and English Interpreting, I would like to be able to help others to succeed in life and meet the goals they have, in relation to education.

I have tutored friends, family, and friends of friends when asked and am looking to continue to help others through tutoring. I enjoy seeing someone grow and the click in someone's brain when they realize how to do something that they have been struggling with doing.

I have completed everything from elementary math to College Algebra with at least 90% and have helped out college peers with math classes that are more complicated than Prealgebra. Growing up I also have helped ensure friends and family members pass their math classes with ease as I can explain and show how to do the work correctly and sometimes through an easier method than given by teachers.

I grew up using American Sign Language in my daily life as I am a child of a deaf adult (CODA) along with English. I am also currently getting a degree in ASL Interpreting and only have my general education and interpreting classes left, I have finished all of my required ASL classes that are needed for my degree.

I am working towards getting a minor in Art and have spent years trying out different art media from body art to digital art. Before I graduated high school, I took every art class they had to offer from Intro to Advanced classes except for Art History. I have taken a few college-level art courses and have begun to study art therapy.

I highly encourage anyone to reach out to me if you would like to receive tutoring or would like more information. Hopefully, you succeed in what you set out to do and I would be more than willing to help you out on your journey.

Very friendly, knowledgeable, professional, and accommodating.

Samantha is teaching my daughter sign language. My daughter is not deaf, but had a friend who is deaf, and really wants to learn to communicate with her better. My daughter is very shy, but Samantha got her to open up, and be very engaging. Samantha is fantastic !!!!

Organized and Insightful Lesson

I had my first lesson with Samantha and found her to be organized, effective, and very helpful. She clearly explained the differences between school-structured ASL and how the ASL community actually signs, which was especially useful. Samantha also provided helpful resources for further self-study. Overall, it was a productive session that gave me a better understanding of what to focus on moving forward.

My daughter has had a lesson with Samantha several times for ASL. After every lesson, my daughter understands the curriculum so much better. Samantha is the reason that my daughter will get an A in ASL.

Knowledge and patient Tutor

She taught my son a lot of sign language. She was kind, polite, and professional. My son came home and told us what he learned and show it. He did great and loved sharing what he was taught. My son loved it so much and he cannot wait to do it again next week!

My Lifeline.

Awesome. Patient. Easy to work with. Most importantly though, flexible with working with students or learners of all different levels. I have five Deaf Studies classes, all with straight A’s. I mean, I’m not saying I didn’t do my thing. But Sam was a big part of that.
