Hey, my name's John! I graduated from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, and served as choir director at an Iowa public school from 2020-2024. At Luther, I studied as a Baritone, composed, and was heavily involved in a variety of vocal ensembles featuring early music, contemporary choral music, vocal Jazz, and acapella. Additionally, I served as a music theory tutor, working directly with fellow students who needed extra help with their theory courses. Through my recent work as a choir director, I focused on utilizing music theory to enhance my ensemble's performance ability. I also designed a music theory course for students to take, which was a first for the district. In the Fall of 2025, I will begin work as a Graduate Assistant of Music Theory at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities.
Music Theory and Ear Training are subjects that can challenge many aspiring Music and Music Education majors. Oftentimes, even the most gifted performers and educators can have theory or ear struggles. These hurdles should not stop anyone from pursuing a career in music! My hope is that, by working together, more people can find success in their studies, allowing them to achieve their professional and musical goals.

I will work directly with you on the curriculum you are studying. I know that a musician's time is valuable (and often sparse), so I can offer you a great deal of flexibility in terms of scheduling.
