I enjoy helping people fulfill their goals.
Whether a student wanted to do more to excel in classes, a home school student desired to fulfill a math requirement to get into college, college freshmen required help with their writing skills, or international students wanted to practice conversational English, I have helped provide the training and support they needed.
I have also helped first graders to learn to read, to do arithmetic, and to develop science skills. I have assisted employees learning how to do a job, have instructed mentally handicapped adults in skills needed to function in the community, and have taught students doing craft projects or ceramics.
I am certified to teach English as a Second Language (ESL) and have taught ESL to university students.
I am a certified Transcendental Meditation teacher. I have taught people of all ages the Transcendental Meditation technique. I also have helped to teach a teacher training course for students learning to be TM teachers.
I earned my Bachelors degree in Sociology from the University of Illinois at Chicago Circle.
I received my Masters degree in Urban Teacher Education from Governor's State University in University Park, IL, where I was named to "Who's Who in American Higher Education." That university specialized in Competency Based Education, a tool I use to help students set concrete, specific, measurable objectives to realize their goals.
I am appreciative, patient, and able to help a student feel at ease.
Based on student interest, I offer support and research help to aid and guide students as they develop solutions to meet their needs. I enjoy finding and sharing on-line links and community resources that relate to an individual's interests.
I am a U.S. citizen. I have studied or worked in the U.S., Canada, Curacao, Germany, India, Italy, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Puerto Rico, Switzerland, Trinidad, and Venezuela.
I find learning fun. I encourage students to play with ideas. Playing with ideas can reveal connections between different disciplines, between groups of people, and between schoolwork and daily life. Being able to make these connections helps students to develop critical thinking and encourages innovation.
I am available to tutor K-12 courses and all levels of ESL. I am happy to work either with an individual student or with a group of students. I can provide structured or unstructured sessions depending on the needs and desires of the student(s).
I am responsible, honest, and reliable. I encourage these qualities in my students as well.
I have a 24 hour cancellation policy, but do offer the option of rescheduling a session. Exceptions may be made for illness or emergency.
Sessions will be held in Fairfield, IA.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
