Hello!
I'm Cathleen. I have a passion for learning, and several degrees across various disciplines. I hold an MA in behavioral economics, am a published academic, and have taught at the college level in NYC and Iowa City. I've also taught students of all ages, across multi-disciplinary topics, cultures and thresholds, and am certified to do so. I have vast knowledge about curriculum choices and methodologies, so can easily help untangle core comprehension issues - like figuring out what the question is from the get go!
I'm qualified to teach ESL and have studied multiple languages; subsequently, I've developed best practices that help with language comprehension and retention.
During four years in Santa Fe, NM, I worked as a legal transcriptionist, photojournalist ("The Albuquerque Journal"), and production assistant (Santa Fe Film Festival).
I won a scholarship to grad school in NYC to study heterodox and became fascinated by econometric modeling. I also published a paper ("Journal of Economic Methodology") critiquing the normative definition of "Rational Agency."
I've been conceptualizing and designing user infrastructure platforms and apps for over 15 years. I can instruct about the digital product industry or specific platform tools, or teach creative subjects (design, composition).
My approach is "Socratic" in nature, focusing on the what, why and how of subject material (I'm happy to tutor any subject). I've often noticed that students are tasked with learning a topic when they don't even know what the topic IS to begin with. My strategy is to discuss the topic in context to enable understanding at a holistic level before attempting to memorize or complete tasks. I canb adapt teaching methodologies to student needs and have taught across all aptitude levels. I have been privileged to realize that some students possess a wealth of knowledge that simply hasn't been tapped into yet, and it's my great pleasure to help bring this to light!
Thank you! I look forward to meeting.
