Hi, I’m MacKenzie! I am a licensed elementary and special education teacher with six years of experience teaching grades Pre-K through 6. My experience includes teaching students with a wide range of ability levels and diagnoses including Autism, ADHD and Dyslexia in small group and one-on-one settings. Subjects I have taught include reading, writing, math, and social-emotional learning using Orton-Gillingham inspired methods, multisensory approaches to learning, direct instruction, and play-based learning.
My professional philosophy is that every child learns in their own way. To align my teaching with this philosophy, I tailor each student’s course of study to their individual needs and learning preferences in order to set them up for as much growth as possible. I like to review progress with students and stakeholders frequently to discuss student growth or if adjustments need to be made to current programming. Communication is key to a successful tutor/student/stakeholder relationship and therefore I am always open and clear when communicating with students and stakeholders and hope that they feel comfortable to be open and clear with me as well.
