Hi, I'm Balthazar. I have a Master of Science degree in theoretical physics from Iowa State University. My undergraduate degrees are in mathematics and physics. When I was a graduate student at Iowa State, I taught first-year physics and earned the prestigious "Outstanding First-Year Teacher Award". Later, I was voted "Top 10% of ISU Graduate Students for Outstanding Teaching" by my students. During my 3rd and 4th years of undergraduate school I was an in-demand tutor for the university athletic department, helping student athletes succeed in their math and physics courses.
After grad school I travelled extensively and worked online as a Quality Auditor for a company called "StudySmarter" (now Vaia). My job was to review physics study materials prepared for students by other physics tutors, including verifying the accuracy of their calculations and assumptions. I speak Spanish at an Upper B1 / Lower B2 level. I describe my tutoring style as demonstrative and interactive. When a student is having difficulty with a problem or concept I will patiently demonstrate the solution, working through the problem or concept while explaining each step, describing the steps in different ways until I see that the student understands. This is an interactive process, making sure my student can independently manage each step before moving forward. To fully master the material, it is important that the student not just get the right answer to a problem, but to also know why the answer is correct.
