Kelly- Violin Performance and Music Education

I graduated from Iowa State University bachelors in music with a certificate in violin performance and a recommendation for my teaching licensure. While in college, I have immersed myself in the music performance world. I have been concertmaster of the school’s string groups for the past 3 years and the recipient of several awards and scholarships for my dedication to violin. While in college, I have maintained a violin studio of several different age ranges and abilities. Additionally, for two summers I was the assistant director at a summer orchestra festival for young students in Ames. While at the festival, I was the director of the beginner string orchestra and worked with students as young as 5 years old to 12 years old. Outside of music, I have always found myself teaching. From swimming lessons to summer camps, I spend my summers teaching a variety of subjects. In addition to music, I have tutored math, reading, writing and biology.

Like I said in my bio, I have taught a diverse private string studio for the past 5 years. I have taught students with a wide range of abilities- from beginner with no experience to expert with years of experience, and a wide range of instruments. and ages. Currently my studio consists of violins, violas and cellos. I have students from 5 years old to 57 years old and everything in between! In college I was a teaching assistant for Theory and Music History. Additionally, I spent the past 3 years as concertmaster of all string ensembles at my school. I have a degree in K-12 Music Education and also received a certificate (similar to a minor) in Violin Performance.
