Very Experienced First Grade Teacher

I taught first grade for 30!+ years. My passion is reading and writing. Over the years many new fads came and went, but I found there is no substitute for old methodologies which I used successfully over the years. I love children and love to see their eyes light up when they master reading.

Currently I volunteer in an ESL program in our local community. I can speak three languages fluently.

I have extensive experience. I student taught in London many years ago. I am a voracious reader. I currently serve on our local Board of Education. I also volunteer in a first grade classroom where i work with the children on their comprehension skills. I also help at our local library where I help with the summer reading program.

Children have been my passion for most of my adult life. I have worked with children at all ability levels and with learning disabilities. I have always held high expectations for every child because with the correct strategies, every child can learn. Over the years, I tutored many children during the summer months.

Phonics has been my calling card as a first grade reading teacher. It is the fundamentals of phonics that creates successful readers. I have used phonics as a reading strategy for over 30 years.

I would be delighted to tutor your child. I would not give up and together he/she would learn to read.
