My educational journey began at the University of Kansas, where I earned a Bachelor of Science in Comprehensive Social Studies Education, followed by two Master's degrees—one in Curriculum & Instruction and another in Adaptive Special Education. I furthered my specialization with an MBA in Management & Leadership and completed my formal training with a Doctor of Education from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, focusing on Education Administration.
My teaching career commenced in 2004 as a Special Education teacher in Kansas City, where I first developed my hands-on approach to meeting diverse educational needs. This foundational experience was pivotal in shaping my methodologies and passion for educational inclusivity. Most recently, as an English teacher at Atlantic High School in Iowa, I have crafted curricula that integrate literary analysis with life skills, promoting holistic development through courses that explore wellness through literature and prepare students for the evolving workforce with 21st-century skills. My approach in Atlantic has been deeply informed by earlier experiences, utilizing a blend of innovative and traditional educational strategies to engage students.
My teaching methods are deeply rooted in the belief that education should be accessible and engaging for all learners. By employing a blend of traditional and innovative strategies, such as digital tools and real-world applications, I strive to make learning both enjoyable and effective.
