I am a pharmacist by trade with a passion for mentoring and teaching students and hold a Doctor of Pharmacy degree. I have been a direct preceptor for numerous pharmacy students over the last 10 years by: providing one-on-one learning experiences, engaging the students to enhance problem solving skills, assessing knowledge related to healthcare, business, communication, and pharmacology. I held an Adjunct Assistant Clinical Pharmacy position through the University of Kansas, and was an assistant in the practical lab for pharmacy students.
In training to be a pharmacist I am able to tutor in the areas of science, biology, math, and pharmacology. However my life experiences with managing a pharmacy extend into business management, professionalism, interviewee skills, and career development. I also have experience in governmental affairs related to healthcare. I welcome any pre-health professionals, business, college or K-12 students.
I am passionate about teaching, from elementary through college. When my formal teaching experience is with college students, I have patience for teaching young students through experience with my own children.
I welcome feedback from the student and parent. If you feel my experience suits your needs and you are seeking a mentor and tutor, I look forward to hearing from you. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I was a pharmacy manager for 12 years, which included; hiring, training, and supervising over 25 employees, figuring and reporting profitability of the pharmacy, managing expenses and inventory. I was also involved in marketing and merchandising for the pharmacy and store, and worked as in integral part of the management team.
I have a been a preceptor for college students for 12 years. I was very involved in career development skills for students at the University of Kansas and was invited as a guest speaker at the Pre-Pharmacy Campus Convention. I was also on the Board of the Kansas Pharmacists Association and one of our goals was improving student involvement in the profession. I was also a participant in case study design forums for the University which helped prepare students for professional interactions. In an adjunct assistant pharmacy role and preceptor, I directly mentored dozens of final year students in preparation for their career.
I learned to cook very early from watching my parents. While my only formal training was Home Ec in high school, I really enjoy cooking and baking, and learn new ideas from all the cooking shows available on TV now. I like to bake by recipe, and have a good eye for preparing dinners & meals from scratch without a recipe. I would enjoy helping people learn basic skills of meal preparation.
I have competed in several triathlons in the last few years as well as running races. I enjoy swimming, cycling, and running. The latest race can be verified at BVU.edu/triathlon where I took 3rd overall for women. I would be glad to help those interested in beginning a fitness routine.
I am a licensed pharmacist, my Kansas license can be verified on the Kansas Board of Pharmacy website. My license number is 1-13589. I have a doctor of pharmacy degree from the University of Kansas.
