My love for learning started at a young age, as my parents always taught me the value in education. They pushed me to always give 100% in and out of the classroom in order to excel in my schoolwork. I soon discovered that academic success felt rewarding. I set a goal to achieve a 4.0 in high school and earn a scholarship to Utah State University. Four years of hard work paid off when I realized my dream and was awarded the Presidential Scholarship at USU.
Achieving that goal showed me how powerful a specific goal paired with consistent effort can be, and it sparked a desire to help others experience that same sense of confidence. During college, I volunteered at my high school to provide one-on-one support to struggling 9-12th grade students during their lunch hour. Many of these students had a strong desire to do well in school, but needed a patient, supportive tutor to help them identify setbacks, set goals to overcome them, and ultimately build habits to avoid those obstacles in the future. This approach didn’t come naturally to many of my students. Some were just coming to have their homework done or papers completed for them, and part of my role was guiding them to take ownership of their learning instead. Seeing that change in their outlook, along with the positive shift in their trajectory, solidified my passion and commitment to helping young learners achieve academic success.
Shifting back to my college education, I first pursued advanced coursework in calculus and engineering, which strengthened my problem-solving skills and challenged me to approach problems analytically. I later changed focus and completed my degree in UX design, which allowed me to combine creativity, technology, and human-centered design while continuing to build on the skills I developed through my STEM courses. These experiences helped me develop into a capable and well-rounded college graduate, equipped to guide students across a wide range of subjects and challenges as a tutor.
