ACT Math

ACT Math

The ACT math section contains 60 multiple-choice questions relating to six different content areas. You will have 60 minutes to complete this section. The math section is the only part of the ACT that contains five rather than four answer choices. In addition to math, the ACT exam also includes sections on English, reading comprehension, science and an optional essay. What is tested: The ACT math section focuses on six general content areas: Pre-Algebra, Elementary Algebra, Intermediate Algebra, Coordinate Geometry, Plane Geometry, and Elementary Trigonometry. Experience: 19 years of teaching high school mathematics.
Algebra 1

Algebra 1

Standard Algebra 1 textbooks involves concepts involving linear equations in slope intercept form, slopes of equations of lines, slopes of perpendicular lines. Other concepts covered in the course include addition, subtraction, multiplication of monomials, binomials (FOIL method),and factoring. Word problem solving strategies may include solving problems using Rate x Time = Distance, proportions, and unit conversions. Learning Algebra 1 will be an integral part to success in Algebra 2 and beyond.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

Algebra II - is a continuation course from Algebra I. Topics include solving linear equation in one variable, solving one variable in a literal equation, solving for two unknown variables with two equations, solving three unknown variables with three equations. Other topics include solvinge Quadratic equations using methods in Algebra I such as solve by factoring. In Algebra II, solving for the Quadratic Equation using the Quadratic Formula and solving for the Quadratic Equation by completing the square will be emphasized more. The laws of exponents, exponential functions and logarithmic functions will also be covered. Sequences and series will be covered. And, the conic sections: circles, ellipses, hyperbolas, and parabolas will be introduced to prepare a student eventually for PreCalculus. Word problems will also be covered and any topic within chapters 1 through 12 (some books have 14 chapters)in a standard Algebra II textbook.
Calculus

Calculus

I have 19 years of experience teaching high school mathematics. Courses I have taught through out the years include: PreAlgebra, Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Trigonometry, PreCalculus, and AP Calculus AB, BC. I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics, a Master's degree in Education, and am licensed to teach by the Department of Education.
Geometry

Geometry

Geometry - Topics in Geometry include basic foundations in geometry: point, line, plane (undefined terms of Geometry). It continues onto inductive reasoning (pattern recognition), introduction to theorems involving lines, lines in planes, parallel and skew lines. theorems involving proving lines parallel will also be covered. Also, proving triangles congruent by SSS, SAS, ASA (postulates), AAS, HL (Theorems) will be studied. Other terms such as CPCTC will be introduced. Polygons such as triangles and quadrilaterals and special quadrilaterals (parallelograms, rhombus, trapezoids and kites) will be introduced. Finding Areas of polygons and regular polygons will be studied also. Special right triangles (30-60-90 and 45-45-90) theorems will be instrumental to success in Algebra 2 and Trigonometry. Also, similarities in triangles and similarities in right triangles using geometric means of involving lengths of sides of similar right triangles. Transformations of polygons will also be covered. Introduction to Trigonometric ratios will be one of the last concepts covered in a geometry course. This section is critical to understanding future math concepts in Trigonometry.
Precalculus

Precalculus

Experience: 19 years of teaching high school mathematics. Courses I have taught through out the years include: PreAlgebra Algebra 1 Geometry Algebra 2 Trigonometry PreCalculus AP Calculus AB, BC Pre-Calculus is a course consisting of concepts from Algebra 2 and Trigonometry. Algebra 2 introduces the logarithmic function and the exponential function. Pre-Calculus goes more in detail to the functions as inverse functions of each other. Also, Euler's number is introduced in the exponential function and the inverse of that function is introduced as the natural logarithm. The course continues and goes into further detail into De'Moivre Theorem. The theorem describes the relationship between the complex plane and the trigonometry. Other functions such as the polynomial functions are introduced. You will also receive an introduction to the remainder factor theorem and other theorems to help graph polynomial functions. The course ends where Calculus I begins with the idea of limits.
SAT Math

SAT Math

I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics. I also have a Masters degree in Education. My teaching experience in Mathematics spans 19 years. I am a Mathematics high school teacher. Also, I have been doing private tutoring in Mathematics on a regular basis since college. Throughout, the many years of my teaching career, I have had clients from parents of private school students that have hired me to tutor their child in SAT Math. With my teaching experience and my educational background, I feel I am qualified to tutor in SAT math.
Trigonometry

Trigonometry

Trigonometry extends your knowledge of sine, cosine, tangent ratios you learned in Geometry. Trigonometry covers trigonometric functions dealing with angles involving rotating the terminal side counter clockwise to produce other angles. You will learn trigonometric identities and other concepts that are fundamental to the success in future courses including pre-calculus and calculus.

Great value! Professional, friendly, extremely helpful.

Our kids found Mr. S. to be clear in his instruction and very helpful. Our daughter said she was excited because she learned a lot. They are looking forward to their next lesson! Later. Have had several more lessons (all terrific and well worth the time and expense!) and I really appreciate the detailed feedback and lesson summaries Mr. S gives. We are so blessed to have found Mr. S.
