I have been teaching for almost thirty years, specializing in working with folks who hate math, think they're bad at math, or find learning math to be incredibly stressful. In addition to tutoring high school and traditional college students, I absolutely love working with non-traditional, older college students. I have been teaching for almost thirty years, specializing in working with folks who hate math, think they're bad at math, or find learning math to be incredibly stressful. In addition to tutoring high school and traditional college students, I absolutely love working with non-traditional, older college students. If this is you, feel free to drop me a note if you're looking for a tutor who understands your unique learning situation. My specialty subject areas include pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, precalculus, and calculus.
In addition to math-specific topics, I'm a former professional speaker, pitch coach, and presentation consultant. Like my affinity for folks who hate math, I specialize in working with folks who hate public speaking.
My teaching journey began in a one-room schoolhouse in Alaska in the late 90s, and since then I've had the opportunity to teach at Portland State University, Portland Community College, Mount Hood Community College, the Portland Youth Builder program, and the University of Montana's College of Business. My thirty-year tutoring journey has run in parallel to this classroom trajectory, and I even ran my own tutoring company in the early 2010s. I've spent the last six years teaching for the College of Business at the University of Montana, specializing in Online Learning, Animated Explainer Videos, and a variety of topics related to Business Communication and Entrepreneurship.
I hold undergraduate degrees from Gonzaga University ('96), University of Montana ('99), and a Master of Science in Teaching Mathematics (MST) from Portland State University ('05).
While I can't promise you'll fall madly in love with whatever we're working on (even though I'm always open to that possibility), I can promise to be patient and kind, and that you'll hate it a lot less after we work together.
