During my college application process, I wrote essays for universities such as Harvard, Princeton, Yale, and Dartmouth which required me to do extensive research on the art of the college application essay. This essay is quite different from many other essays that high schoolers are used to and it can be tricky to know what colleges are looking for! However, after my own personal experience and subsequent research, I gained a solid understanding of how to plan, construct, and execute a successful college application essay.
I also enjoy tutoring students with any other kind of essay or paper they need help with! Throughout my undergraduate experience, I have written numerous papers and written response essays (at least three per week) on topics covering a wide range of subjects including synaptic plasticity, the history of Buddhism, biophilic city design, the philosophy of evolution, virtual reality museum proposals, poetry, etc. Each essay, student, and reader are unique, so I don't believe there is any one-size-fits-all formula for writing, especially for good writing (sorry Chat-GPT). Good writing requires a solid understanding of the paper's goals, context, and audience and a creative, intuitive ability to synthesize these into a gestalt! Thus, I would argue that essay tutors are still helpful even in the advent of our new AI friends.
