Hi I’m Gordon! I specialize in test prep and subjects related to technical fields. Math, SAT, and Computer Programming are my most taught subjects, though my interests and skills have led me to help students with lessons ranging from Card Magic to Essay Writing.
I started tutoring ever since I was in high school, helping fellow classmates or underclassmen. Back then, tutoring sessions were conducted both in small group and one-on-one settings. Now, with over 7 years of experience working with clients ranging from as young as 8 years old to adults in their 40s, I have developed an adaptable teaching style that prioritizes patience, clarity, and efficiency.
Regarding concrete teaching methods, I’ve made sure to build my business around effective learning tools. Our first lesson will usually involve a brief intro to the online platforms I use to get the student comfortable with the learning environment, and then we begin discussing the students needs and where they stand in the subject they are trying to learn. The tools I use have been effective for all kinds of teaching including pair computer programming, illustrating math concepts, and even Chinese language instruction. Lesson plans and curriculum may also be followed, depending on the student’s goals. Most of the time, students will come to me already having topics that they’d like to address and I work with their agenda. In the end, the process of learning should ultimately feel like the student’s own journey, with my role being to challenge and provide relevant knowledge.
Finally, for my own educational background, I am a recent UC Berkeley graduate and have a Bachelor’s degree in Peace and Conflict Studies. I attribute my college admission success to a 3.9 cumulative high school GPA (unweighted), a 2150/2400 SAT score, and a vast array of extracurricular interests. However, as my ultimate career interests lie in community development and social work, I understand that learning and growing as an effective community member is more than just about test
