Hi everyone, my name is Anaïs!
I am currently pursuing my undergraduate degree in international economics on the pre-law track at Georgetown University. Over the past four years I have tutored, I have had the opportunity to support students in subjects predominantly including economics, mathematics, and writing. My experiences have led to work with students at the elementary, junior-high, and high school level in both one-on-one and classroom settings.
For the past few years, my style of tutoring has been guided by the socratic method of teaching. have attended multiple workshops in the past few yeas honing my ability to tutor with this style as I believe that it allows students to develop the skills necessary to eventually be independently confident in the material I tutor. In practice the socratic method means I ask targeted questions that guide students through the productive "friction" of learning. By pairing this dialogue with visual labs and interactive activities, I help them build a conceptual foundation rather than relying on rote memorization. I also pride myself on adapting to distinct learning profiles; for example, when tutoring a student with a short-term memory impairment, we explored alternative learning exercises to ensure those math concepts stuck long-term.
Beyond STEM, I also have a long standing appreciation for peer-guided writing. As a writing tutor, my methodology centers on critical revision rather than simply rewriting a student's work. I want to help students refine their authentic voice. I guide them through the mechanics of establishing a strong thesis, structuring logical lines of reasoning, executing research, and naturally absorbing grammar skills.
Across all the disciplines I tutor, my overarching philosophy that tutoring is about forging a genuine human connection. There is something incredibly rewarding in witnessing that profound "aha!" moment when I can step back, and the student transitions from being taught to actively discovering the answer for themselves.
