Hi, I'm Sam! I am a Ph.D. student in communication with a background in public relations, holding both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in this field. My academic training emphasizes writing for clarity, audience awareness and persuasive impact, particularly in academic and professional contexts. Through my coursework and research, I have extensive experience working with theory-driven writing, research papers and long-form academic projects such as theses and proposals. I specialize in helping writers develop strong arguments, organize complex ideas and communicate their work clearly and confidently.

My teaching and tutoring experience has primarily involved one-on-one support with college and graduate students. I have worked with writers on essays, research papers and thesis-level projects, focusing on higher-order concerns such as structure, coherence and alignment between claims, evidence and audience expectations. My approach emphasizes collaboration and explanation rather than simply correcting text; I aim to help students understand why revisions strengthen their writing so they can apply those skills independently in future work. I am especially comfortable supporting students who feel stuck, overwhelmed, or uncertain about how to frame their ideas. We all get writer's block!

In addition to writing support, my background in communication allows me to help students with public speaking and presentation development, including organizing content, refining messaging and adapting delivery for different audiences. My goal as a tutor is to provide thoughtful, personalized, supportive guidance that helps students communicate more effectively and with greater confidence.

Essay Writing

Essay Writing

Throughout my undergraduate, master’s and doctoral training in communication and public relations, I have completed many writing-intensive courses focused on academic argumentation, rhetorical analysis, research writing and theory-driven essays. These courses required frequent drafting and revision of analytical essays, literature reviews and research papers, which gave me extensive familiarity with academic writing expectations at the college and graduate levels. In addition to my own coursework, I have regularly helped other students with their essays by reviewing drafts, discussing feedback from instructors and offering guidance on thesis development, organization, style and clarity. This combination of formal training and peer-level tutoring experience allows me to support students thoughtfully through different stages of the writing process. I have been where you are, and I would love to help you overcome any uncertainty or frustration you may be experiencing with writing essays.
Public Speaking

Public Speaking

Throughout my academic training, I have developed extensive experience with public speaking in both professional and academic settings. At the University of Florida, I held forward-facing roles, including work with the International Center, where I regularly engaged with diverse audiences in high-stakes interpersonal contexts. At the Ph.D. level, public speaking is a central part of my academic work, including formal presentations, leading class sessions with peers, and presenting research in seminar-style environments. I understand the anxiety and pressure that often accompany academic speaking, so I focus on breaking the process into clear, manageable steps that help speakers organize their ideas, manage nerves and build confidence.
Thesis Writing

Thesis Writing

Throughout my academic training, I have developed extensive experience with thesis-driven writing at the undergraduate, master’s and doctoral levels. As a Ph.D. student in communication, I regularly produce and revise long-form scholarly work. I am deeply familiar with the challenges of thesis writing, such as refining research questions, structuring complex arguments, synthesizing literature and maintaining clarity and coherence. Drawing on both my formal training and experience mentoring peers, I help students break the thesis-writing process into manageable stages and help them develop well-supported work that meets graduate-level academic standards.
