Hello! My name is Michael, and I am a second year student at the John A. Burns School of Medicine at the University of Hawaii. I grew up outside of Boston in Lexington, Massachusetts, where I went to Lexington High School and graduated with a 3.98 GPA (unweighted) and took 5 APs w/ a mix of 4s and 5s (AB Calc, Pys 1, Spanish, Bio, Chem). I played varsity basketball, volleyball, and was involved in the typical extracurriculars. I also was a snowboard coach at Loon Mountain in New Hampshire, but fell in love with surfing leading me to go west to UC San Diego in 2018.

At UC San Diego, I was involved in organic chemistry research, as well as clinical psychiatry research at a lab at the University of Florida (long story short my parents moved to the sunshine state after I graduated high school). Ultimately, I graduated with a 4.0 GPA, and through self study was able to achieve a 520 MCAT first time around, allowing me to pursue my dream of medicine and surfing at the University of Hawaii.

If you made it this far you clearly are down for stories and that's part of how I teach - lets make it fun and interesting! I don't have much traditional tutoring experience, but tutored math in high school, as well as ACT subjects to my friends as I took it after my sophomore year. I also tutored a lot of my friends for the MCAT as I was friends with a lot of people 1 year behind me in the path to medicine, and all of them were able to achieve 515+ (admittedly they were pretty smart at baseline lol).

MCAT

I scored a 520 on the MCAT (97th percentile) on my first attempt and am currently a medical student at the University of Hawaiʻi JABSOM. I have experience tutoring MCAT content and strategy, including walking students through passages, question logic, and test-taking approaches. My focus is on helping students understand the underlying concepts that drive MCAT questions rather than memorization alone. I tailor sessions to each student’s strengths and weaknesses to build confidence and consistency across sections
