Hello! My name is Jessica. I grew up on Maui and went to a Chinese American International school (CAIS) alongside my sister. I am not Chinese by family, but my mom worked at the school so my sister and I were able to study there. From kindergarten through eighth grade, I learned math, science, music, and language in Mandarin, Chinese. I have been to Shang Hai and Tai Pei during middle school to study abroad. During my years at CAIS I tutored ages from kindergarten to 6th grade. I am fully bilingual and can help anyone looking for intro to intermediate help with reading, writing, or speaking. After middle school I continued to study Mandarin in AP high school courses. During college I received a minor in Chinese. To tie in my interest in environmental science, I studied water quality and impaired water bodies in China. This lead me to pursue a degree in Marine Science at the University of Hawaii at Hilo, where I took advanced chemistry, biology, calculus, and physics. I am a certified scientific diver and took part on Bob Ballards research cruise, the Nautilus. My specialty at UH became The relationship between coral reef ecology and water quality.
I am proficient in helping others with general chemistry, and biology. In particular, I am interested in helping those in Marine Science understand the dynamics of ocean in regards to these basic science. For example, I have excelled in Biological and chemical oceanography and have a plethora if notes as well as experience on the topic.
Having learned Chinese from kindergarten, it is my second language. I can think and speak in Chinese almost as well as in English.
