In August of 2017, my passion lead me to accept an emergency hire position teacher special education in kindergarten and first grade. I kept this position until July 2019. Aloha! My name is Alysha. I have been passionate about being a teacher since I was a kindergartener. In August of 2017, my passion lead me to accept an emergency hire position teacher special education in kindergarten and first grade. I kept this position until July 2019. In 2019, I graduated from the University of Hawaii at Manoa with a postbaccalaureate degree in special education. Following that, I taught second English as a Second Language in South Korea. My students ranged from 6-18 years old. In September 2021, I returned to Hawaii to resume work as a special education teacher and continued in that line until July 2024. In August 2024, my passion and restless curiosity led me to pursue my dual certification and I started my current journey as a general education teacher.
I have previously tutored a student who was applying to Kamehameha Schools. While he was unsuccessful in securing a spot due to the lottery system, in one years time, we were able to bring him up from a fourth grade level in language arts to the sixth grade level. We were also able to bring his math level up from a fifth grade to a sixth grade. During this time, my flexibility was able to shine through. I worked with this student on homework during some sessions, remedial lessons covering topics from his current school year, and remedial lessons to close gaps we found in academic skills. I love to have fun and want to make sure my students also have fun while learning. My style is very nurturing and I am more than willing to break material down step by step and apply my classroom expertise to meet my students where they are.
My goal is to help my students meet their academic potential. I welcome parents to provide materials that suit their child's needs and goals but am also willing and able to provide from my wealth of materials accumulated over the years.
