With a Bachelor's Degree in the visual arts and two years of teaching 6th, 7th, and 8th grade art in the classroom behind me, I am delighted to now turn my attention to personalized education. I love what I do and delight in sharing my insights with those wishing to grow their own skills, whether this be purely grade-oriented or a frustrated hobbyist with a goal that seems so far away.

My siblings and I have been homeschooled most of our lives, so tutoring was ingrained in me from an early age, and when I moved on to private and eventually public school, I just never stopped! With my 10+ years of continual writing experience, I was even able to help my youngest sister transition out of conversational writing to a more professional tone, increasing her grade an entire letter.

I specialize in Art History and delving into the evolution of art and its effects on culture, Creative Writing and letting imagination soar intelligently and fluidly, Essay Writing and learning to organize ideas and change tone and language based the essay type, Oil and Acrylic Painting, and generally many randomized forms of art. This includes bookbinding, knitting, crochet, wax painting (encaustic), charcoal drawing, oil pastels, and more. Inquiries are welcome!

My favorite approach to teaching revolves around learning the person in front of me. I could only help my sister once I uncovered how her brain works and how she processes information, which is difficult if not impossible in the classroom setting surrounded by 25 others in need of the same care. Using conversation and student examples as my guide, together we discover what is trying to be said and needs to be explained in order to better articulate it in writing format.

I look forward to growing together!

Art History

Art History

History in all forms fascinates me. While teaching in the classroom, I found myself researching and developing my own curriculum to increase my knowledge and help others better understand the relationship between art, culture, and humanity as a whole.
Creative Writing

Creative Writing

I process the world around me through writing. The language comes naturally to me, and over the 10+ years of continual writing and submitting for critique, I trained myself to alter my style and word usage to create mood, add poetry and fluidity, and maybe make you laugh? I tutor in perspectives (I vs him/her), vibrant vocabulary, reducing 'to be' verbs (is, was), and managing flow and writers block.
Drawing

Drawing

With a Bachelor's Degree in Studio Art and two years teaching 6th, 7th, and 8th grade art in the classroom under my belt, I now use my skills to teach beginner level drawing to pre-teens desiring to grow their skills. There is no "right way" to draw, only that which has been found helpful.
Essay Writing

Essay Writing

I process the world around me through writing. The language comes naturally to me, and over the 10+ years of continual writing, I have completed and critiqued a wide plethora of papers in each of the essay categories, expository, narrative, research, and persuasive. I tutor in essay formulation and organization, writer's block, transitioning out of conversational tone into professional language, and the minimal usage of 'to be' verbs (is, was).
Painting

Painting

Oil and Acrylic paints are incredibly fun and satisfying but monumentally frustrating without the knowledge of how to use them correctly. Specializing in landscape painting, I taught this medium for two years in the classroom and train in canvas preparation, the different brush types (have you noticed there are a million of them?), and how to use oil and/or acrylic paint effectively (brand is important!).
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

Ironically enough, problem solving comes just as easily to me as writing and painting. I have tutored more complex math during my time as a teacher and homeschool student, but my specialty lies in algebraic expressions and equations. I train how to break down equations that seem complicated into manageable parts so as to easily solve them while explaining the why behind them.
Sewing

Sewing

I possess thorough knowledge of the basics of sewing and yarn work and alter my own clothes in my spare time. I understand how to set up and use a sewing machine and its settings. Yarn work is also a love of mine, and I actively practice both knitting and crochet almost daily using both beginner and advanced techniques, sometimes using a pattern, other times my own imagination!
