I have been teaching for 26 years at the elementary level. I was a classroom teacher for 19 years in Kindergarten and 1st grade. I have been an Interventionist for the past several years, where I work with small groups of students in Kindergarten through 5th grade to fill gaps in their reading and math skills to help them reach grade level proficiency.
I am passionate about early literacy and I believe that literacy is a human right. We owe it to our children to do what it takes to help them become proficient readers and writers. I use research and evidence based teaching methods focusing on the five pillars of literacy -- phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.
I hold a Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education and a Masters degree and Education Specialist degree in Elementary Education. I am state certified to teach PreK-5th grade and have an endorsement in ESOL, Gifted, and Dyslexia. I am highly trained in the Science of Reading and have completed Level 1 training in the Orton-Gillingham method.
