Hello, my name is Abby! I am currently a Ph.D. Candidate in History, and I have my Masters and undergraduate degrees in History. During my undergraduate years, I served as a tutor for History and Writing for 4 years (2015-2018), where I tutored one-on-one in person and online. During my Masters and Ph.D. (2018-present), I have taught college-level courses in World History and Western Civilization both online and in a classroom setting. I have primarily worked with college-age students, high school students, and adults. I prefer a student-based method of teaching and design tutoring strategies according to that particular student's needs.
I find student's success rewarding, and I enjoy seeing them find their own potential as they improve. Writing is a gateway into the world, and understanding that world's history can only provide further insight into current events and cultural norms. I encourage students to think out of the box, analyze materials in their own unique way, and back up their arguments with evidence. While history at the college-level is seldom about names and dates, I recognize that school systems are required to prepare students for tests. I am happy to work with students on learning core information, study strategies, and applying that knowledge. Students have so much potential, and I see my job as giving them the tools they need to succeed, not only in the classroom, but beyond.
