I am a certified teacher with a Master’s degree in General and Special Education and an Ed.S. in Emotional and Behavioral Disorders. I have over 18 years of experience working with students in grades elementary through middle school, and I am currently a Reading and Behavior Intervention Specialist. My background includes extensive work in both general education and special education settings, where I have supported students with a wide range of academic and behavioral needs. I am also trained in structured literacy approaches and use data from diagnostic assessments to guide my instruction.

In my current role, I provide targeted, research-based instruction in phonics, reading fluency, and comprehension for students who are performing below grade level. I work with students in small groups and one-on-one settings, using strategies such as repeated reading, explicit phonics instruction, and comprehension skill development. I also integrate support for focus, confidence, and learning behaviors, as these are essential for academic success. My experience includes working with students who struggle with attention, motivation, and reading-related frustration, and I focus on helping them build both skills and confidence.

I have taught students ranging from early elementary through middle school, with a strong focus on grades 3 through 8. This range of experience allows me to meet students where they are and provide instruction that is both supportive and appropriately challenging. My goal is to help students make meaningful progress while developing the skills and confidence they need to become successful, independent readers.

Approved Subjects

ADHD

ADHD

I currently serve as the Tier 3 Behavior Intervention Teacher at my school, where I support students with intensive behavioral and social-emotional needs. In addition to teaching social skills, I provide direct instruction in behaviors that support successful learning, such as focus, self-regulation, task initiation, and persistence. I work with students who have a range of needs, including ADHD, Autism, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, anxiety, depression, and Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder (DMDD). I also conduct Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) to determine the function of behaviors and develop Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) tailored to each student. My work includes implementing behavior contracts and Check-In/Check-Out systems to support consistency, accountability, and student growth.
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

I am well qualified to teach students with autism based on my advanced training and hands-on experience. I hold an Ed.S. in Emotional and Behavioral Disorders and a Master’s degree in Special Education, which have provided me with a strong foundation in evidence-based practices. I currently work directly with students with autism, teaching social skills and supporting behavior and emotional regulation. I also have background knowledge in cognitive behavioral techniques, which I use to help students develop coping skills, self-awareness, and positive behaviors.
Dyslexia

Dyslexia

I am well qualified to teach students with dyslexia based on my advanced training and targeted reading intervention experience. I hold an Ed.S. in Emotional and Behavioral Disorders and a Master’s degree in Special Education, providing a strong foundation in structured literacy and evidence-based practices. I use a multisensory approach and programs such as Seeing Stars, which targets orthographic processing (a key area impacted in dyslexia), and UFLI Foundations, which builds phonological processing and decoding skills—both essential components of effective dyslexia intervention. I have also applied these strategies personally with my daughter, who has dyslexia; through consistent instruction (45 minutes a day, four days a week), she increased her reading from the teens to over 100 words per minute with strong accuracy within six months.
Elementary (K-6th)

Elementary (K-6th)

I currently serve as a Tier 3 Reading Intervention Teacher, where I provide intensive, research-based instruction to students who are significantly below grade level. I teach phonics, reading fluency, and comprehension using structured literacy approaches and targeted intervention programs. I use diagnostic assessments to identify skill deficits and progress monitoring tools to track student growth and adjust instruction as needed. My instruction includes explicit phonics, repeated reading for fluency, and comprehension strategies that support deeper understanding of text. My goal is to close students’ reading gaps so they can independently access grade-level curriculum, or, when appropriate, refer them for comprehensive evaluation to ensure they receive the support they need.
Executive Functioning

Executive Functioning

I am well qualified to support students with executive functioning challenges through both my advanced training and daily classroom experience. I hold an Ed.S. in Emotional and Behavioral Disorders and a Master’s degree in Special Education, which have given me a strong foundation in understanding how skills like task initiation, organization, time management, working memory, and self-monitoring impact learning. As a Tier 3 intervention teacher, I work with students who struggle with these areas and provide explicit, structured support to build independence and accountability. I use practical, research-based strategies to help students develop routines, break down tasks, manage their time, and follow through with assignments, leading to improved academic performance and confidence.
Special Needs

Special Needs

I have a strong background in special education, with a Master’s degree in General and Special Education and an Ed.S. in Emotional and Behavioral Disorders. I have worked in a variety of settings, including resource, inclusion, and intervention roles, supporting students with diverse academic and behavioral needs. In 2022, I served as the Special Education Lead for my entire school, where I supported staff, ensured compliance, and helped guide implementation of effective instructional and behavioral practices. My experience includes collaborating with teachers and families, implementing IEP supports, and ensuring students can access grade-level standards through appropriate accommodations and interventions. In my current role, I also refer students for comprehensive evaluations when data indicates a need for additional support, ensuring that decisions are data-driven and aligned with each student’s individual needs.
