Certified 6-12 Math Teacher | Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2

Dana D.

I hold a Bachelor of Science from Kennesaw State University and a Master of Education in Secondary Education. I am a certified 6 through 12 mathematics teacher in Georgia with an AP Calculus certification from the University of Georgia and a gifted certification. My expertise covers pre algebra through algebra two and geometry, and I have developed curriculum across those levels as the sole high school mathematics teacher at my school.

I taught in a metro Atlanta public high school for three years and then at a private school for two years where I was the only mathematics teacher responsible for six different preps. I also tutored one on one at a learning center for two years. During that time I worked with students from middle school through high school, some who were ahead and many who were behind. My classroom size has ranged from 90 to 100 students a day.

My approach to tutoring starts with where the student is, not where the curriculum says they should be. I ask questions that help students identify whether their confusion is small enough to address quickly or whether they need a full reexplanation of the concept. When I taught through COVID, I used a document camera and digital pen to work through examples in real time, color coding as I went, with my face visible at the start and close of each lesson so students stayed connected to the person teaching them. In a tutoring session I bring that same approach. I explain the concept, walk through an example with the student, then watch them try one on their own before moving forward.
