Hi, I'm Saye! I'm currently studying computer science at Kennesaw State University, and for the past three years I have worked with high school students preparing for the SAT, ACT, and upper-level math courses. My own academic background has given me a strong foundation in these areas. I earned a 1560 on the SAT and a 34 on the ACT, graduated high school with a 3.98 GPA, and currently maintain a 3.4 college GPA.
My tutoring experience has ranged from one-on-one sessions to small groups and full classroom settings. Working with students with different strengths, learning styles, and learning disabilities has taught me that the same explanation will not work for everyone. I try to pay close attention to where a student’s understanding begins to break down and adjust my pacing, examples, and approach from there. I often use practice problems to try to help students find patterns in their mistakes and build a stronger foundation.
One of the things I enjoy most about tutoring is helping students understand why a concept works instead of simply memorizing a formula, grammar rule, or test taking trick. In my experience, most students that have a hard time with a certain concept only have as hard of a time because of a smaller concept that they didn't fully understand yet. I believe building that strong understanding of the foundations can make unfamiliar questions become much less intimidating. Along with reviewing academic content, I help students develop test taking strategies, time management skills, and ways to break difficult problems into smaller, more manageable steps. My goal is to help each student improve their performance while also becoming a more confident and independent learner.
