I'm a former public school teacher with six years of classroom experience and a Bachelor's degree in Education with a concentration in Mathematics from Georgia Southern University, where I graduated cum laude. I hold Georgia certifications in Elementary Education, Middle Grades Mathematics, and Special Education. Today, I work in education technology, staying closely connected to schools, educators, and the world of teaching and learning.

My philosophy is simple: every child can learn. Students may learn differently or need different levels of support, but with the right approach, every student can grow. I tailor tutoring to each child's needs, interests, and learning style, focusing on academic growth as well as confidence and independence.

I have experience tutoring elementary and middle school students in reading, writing, mathematics, and general academic skills. As a former special education teacher, I'm especially passionate about helping students who need a different approach to understand challenging concepts.

My background in special education also gives me a unique perspective when working with students who have an IEP (Individualized Education Program). I can help families understand their child's educational needs, identify strategies and accommodations that may help, and provide guidance when students face ongoing academic or behavioral challenges. I can also serve as a knowledgeable advocate during IEP meetings, helping families ask questions, voice concerns, and collaborate with the school team.

My goal is for every student to leave each session thinking, "I can do this." If your child needs academic support, a confidence boost, or a tutor who truly believes in their potential, I'd love to help!

Approved Subjects

ADHD

ADHD

I graduated cum laude from Georgia Southern University with a Bachelor's degree in special education. Our curriculum was centered around the knowledge of and teaching strategies of high incidence disabilities. These disabilities include: ADD/ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, learning disabilities, and SDD. I also currently teach elementary school students receiving special education services. Most students on my caseload have ADD or ADHD. I believe it is through my education and experience that I am qualified to tutor students with ADD and ADHD.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

I am a former elementary school teacher with extensive experience teaching and supporting students in mathematics. I specialize in breaking complex math concepts and multi-step problems into simple, manageable steps so students can understand both the process and the “why” behind their work. I often use visual checklists and step-by-step strategies to help students organize their thinking and work more independently. For students who benefit from hands-on learning, I incorporate tactile tools and manipulatives to make abstract math concepts more concrete and easier to visualize.
ESL/ESOL

ESL/ESOL

As a former educator, I have experience supporting English language learners with both academic content and language development. My educational background has equipped me to identify individual learning needs and adapt instruction using visual supports, modeling, repetition, and hands-on strategies. I focus on building vocabulary, reading comprehension, writing, and communication skills while helping students feel more confident using English. My goal is to create a supportive, patient learning environment where students feel comfortable practicing, making mistakes, and growing.
Phonics

Phonics

As a former elementary school teacher, I have extensive experience teaching phonics and foundational reading skills to students with a variety of learning needs. I use explicit, structured instruction to help students understand letter-sound relationships, decoding, blending, and word patterns. I break skills into manageable steps and use repetition, visual supports, and hands-on activities to help students build confidence and retain what they learn. My goal is to make phonics engaging while giving students the foundational skills they need to become confident, independent readers.
Reading

Reading

As a teacher, I have extensive experience helping elementary and middle school students strengthen their reading skills. I use structured, individualized strategies to support phonics, decoding, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and overall reading confidence. I adapt instruction to each student’s learning needs and use their interests to make reading more engaging and meaningful. My goal is to help students not only become stronger readers, but also develop the confidence and independence to approach reading with less frustration.
Special Needs

Special Needs

I graduated cum laude from Georgia Southern University with a Bachelor's degree in special education. Our curriculum was centered around the knowledge of and teaching strategies of high incidence disabilities. These disabilities include: ADD/ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, learning disabilities, and SDD. I also passed the GACE special education general curriculum test. This test included questions about high incidence disabilities. The test also included questions about the best strategies to help and teach students with high incidence disabilities. I also currently teach elementary school students receiving special education services. Most students on my caseload have ADD or ADHD. However, I also serve students who have Autism, Speech and Hearing Impairments, learning disabilities (such as dyslexia and disgraphia), and other health impairments. I believe it is through my education and experience that I am qualified to tutor student with special needs.

Miracle worker

Dawn has opened a window for my daughter to understand concepts she's been struggling with for over a year. Dawn is organized and goal-oriented. My daughter is usually easily discouraged when it comes to schoolwork, but she is engaged for the entirety of her tutoring sessions
