Hi, I'm Dori! I'm a current college student with a passion for tutoring Middle Grades Math, Middle Grades Science, and the Arts. My passion for these subjects led me to complete AP courses such as AP Calculus, AP Psychology, and AP Environmental Science; take leadership positions in my high school's National Science Honors Society and National English Honor Society; as well as complete a Fine Arts Pathway in high school. Math and Science are crucial topics for students to understand the world around them and to work in most job fields. However, students usually develop a disinterest in these fields because of the lack of individualized instruction offered to them. I believe that Middle School is often the best time to build student interest in Math and Science because it is the foundation of high school and higher education. My tutoring interest extends to the Arts, because when students develop their passion for the Arts, they are also learning how to focus, how to learn, and how to use the resources around them to create new ideas. I try to bring this knowledge to my tutoring approach, and do everything I can to make learning a pleasant experience. I use lesson plans built around Common Core Standards. Through class discussions, problem walkthroughs, and practice assessments, I help students build their understanding of the subject. I also give students homework to complete between class sessions, which I will work through with them if needed.
I have a year volunteer experience tutoring students aged 10 to 16 in math-based subjects like Pre-Algebra, Algebra, and Geometry. I worked 1-on-1 with students that needed additional help understanding class materials. By demonstrating how to solve problems and assisting them as they solved homework questions, I helped students build their math capabilities.
