Hello! My name is Amelia. I recently graduated magna cum laude with my bachelor's degree in Neuroscience, during which I tutored peers on writing and anatomy & physiology. During that time, I received training from the university's tutoring center, so I have the formal knowledge of how to approach hard subjects and/or unenthusiastic students, in addition to the real-life experience I gained while actually working with tutees.
Throughout my degree, I discovered that I greatly enjoyed tutoring, because I was able to connect with students and make a positive difference in their understanding of the material. I could impart all that I had learned, like study skills, how to adapt your learning style to a specific subject, and how to prepare for different kinds of tests. Additionally, changing my tutoring strategies to fit the individual student was a focus of mine, because each person understands things in a different way. I am able to explain concepts at multiple different levels, and in multiple different ways. I can also help with memorization, because I've come up with many methods to help myself memorize things like vocabulary, scientific theories, dates, and lists. When tutoring writing, I helped students brainstorm, create strong theses, learn correct grammar, and develop their own style/voice. I've worked on everything from lab reports to argumentative essays to literature reviews. I enjoy the writing process and helping others learn to enjoy writing as well. At the very least, I will help you earn better grades on your papers!
I excel in one-on-one tutoring, as I'm better able to connect with the student and understand their learning style. My belief is that a genuine connection goes a long way in tutoring, so I strive to make one with each of my students. I feel confident in my ability to help you or your child with whatever subject they are struggling in, whether that's English, writing, science, history, literature, or math.
