I am Alison. Thank you for considering me as your tutor. I have over 25 years of experience helping students become confident, successful learners. I hold a Master's degree in Special Education (Learning Disabilities and ADHD) from American University and a Master's degree in Education from Oxford University, UK. Throughout my career, I have served as a teacher, learning specialist, executive function coach for ADHD, director of tutoring, and school principal, working with students from elementary school through college.
I specialize in supporting students with dyslexia, ADHD, dysgraphia, and executive functioning challenges. I am trained in Orton-Gillingham and have extensive experience using structured literacy programs, including Fundations Calkins, and Fountas and Pinnel, to teach reading, spelling, writing, and comprehension. I also help students with ADHD develop organization, study skills, time management, self-advocacy, and standardized test strategies.
My tutoring is individualized, research-based, and designed to build both skills and confidence. As an educational diagnostician, I identify each student's strengths and learning needs, then create lessons that are engaging, practical, and targeted to help them make measurable progress. I believe every student can succeed when instruction is tailored to how they learn. My goal is not only to improve academic performance but also to help students become independent, confident learners who enjoy learning and believe in their own potential.
