Hey y'all! I am a current MS4 student, soon to become family medicine intern. I graduated with Summa Cum Laude with a bachelor's degree in environmental health. I passed USMLE Step 1 (Pass/Fail) on my first try, and scored in the 98th percentile on USMLE Step 2 using both UWorld and AMBOSS question banks.
While in undergraduate, I spent two years assisting fellow student in pre-medical science classes such as biology, general chemistry, organic chemistry, and biochemistry. I would tutor in a one-on-one setting, or host a group of tutees (4-8 tutees per session) to discuss topics of their choosing, creating a tentative lesson plan for each session. I would incorporate practice problems into these sessions as well, aiming to reinforce their newly understood concepts.
While in medical school, my passion for tutoring did not stop! I focused on Step 1, Step 2, and clerkship shelf examination prep during the second, third, and fourth year medical students. I largely held one-on-one tutoring sessions, with occasional group settings (limited by schedule and student availability), but truly enjoyed the one-on-one setting to help each student specifically with any academic hurdles they face. My tutoring approach focuses on improving content mastery, creating strong test-taking strategies, and completing practice questions with real-time feedback. I focus on helping students understand both material and approach to clinical vignettes through pattern recognition and clinical reasoning. One tutee proclaims that I helped her shelf exam scores increase by 8 points, allowing her to obtain an "Honors" passing grade on multiple shelf examinations, along with improve Step 2 scores by 15 points.
