Hi! I'm a science and math tutor and a PhD candidate in Environmental Science (Marine Biogeochemistry). I enjoy working work students at every level, from junior high through undergraduate, master's, and doctoral. I've been tutoring since my own undergraduate years, when I earned a bachelor's in Honors Biology and Environmental Science with a Chemistry minor.

Science: plant biology, animal biology, ecology, population biology, biogeography, geology, GIS, environmental science, general chemistry, organic chemistry, environmental chemistry, physical chemistry, marine biogeochemistry, marine biology, oceanography, scientific writing, and data analysis in R.

Math: basic math and pre-algebra, Algebra I and II, and the quantitative skills that quietly derail science courses at any level, including unit conversions and dimensional analysis, scientific notation, ratios and proportions, logarithms, graphing and slope, and setting up word problems.

Everything I teach, I use. My doctoral work traces water chemistry from the Everglades through Florida Bay out to the coral reef tract, so biology, chemistry, math, and writing show up in my week as one connected problem rather than four separate subjects. That's the perspective I bring to a session, and it's why I can usually show a student where a concept is actually going instead of just how to get the answer.

What I love most is decoding dense material into terms that actually click. If a concept isn't landing, I'll find another way in. Right now, I am pursuing a doctoral degree in marine biogeochemistry, but while I work on that, would love to help you reach your goals! I'm here to help you study, think more critically, and set you up for success on your projects and exams.

Thank you for considering me as your tutor!

Approved Subjects

Biology

Biology

I utilize my knowledge of biological processes in my research, from microbes, to plants, to animals. I'm an animal and plant biologist by heart, but that means understanding intricate system processes on a cellular level. I graduated with an Honors Biology degree and Environmental Science in undergrad, and still practice that foundational knowledge in my "Bio" part of my PhD.
Botany

Botany

I designed and executed an experiment to determine if seagrass photosynthesis could offset predicted oceanic end-century pH scenarios. My work has been presented as a proof of concept in the 2021 International Coral Reef Society conference and the Ocean Sciences Meeting of 2022. I am interested in the interactions between biological processes (such as photosynthesis) and seawater carbonate chemistry and whether this could be used as a natural ocean alkalization method.
Chemistry

Chemistry

I study the chemistry of water in freshwater, estuary, and marine ecosystems. Using the characteristics, I can trace connections with chemical changes (ie. photosynthesis, dissolution, nitrification, sulfate reduction) to determine the health of seawater flowing onto our reefs. This utilizes my knowledge of general, organic, analytical, inorganic, and physical chemistry on a daily basis.
Ecology

Ecology

I work in connected freshwater, estuarine, and marine ecosystems with the biological and physical features of these ecosystems. I study the relationships between them and the interactions that occur which shape the environment.
Environmental Science

Environmental Science

Bringing an undergraduate degree of Honors Biology and Environmental Science, I am one of Georgia's first PhD candidates of Environmental Science. My research in marine biogeochemistry includes the entirety of south Florida; from the Everglades, through Florida Bay, and onto Florida's Coral Reef. As an Environmental Scientist, I not only study the environment, but advise how we manage it and protect it. This means that I need to know all parts of the environment and the connections between the biological to physical features.
Physical Science

Physical Science

I am well versed in the Physical Sciences with experience in combining principals from biology, chemistry (physical, general, organic), geology, and ecology. My current work focuses on marine biogeochemistry, which requires a thorough understanding of the interactions between the chemical, biological, geological, and ecological processes and reactions in the oceans. I look forward to sharing my love of science with you while helping you better understand complex topics and interactions.
Thesis Writing

Thesis Writing

I have completed an undergraduate Honor Thesis and Defense where I devised a hypothesis, performed an experiment, and wrote and defended a thesis with my results. I currently am pursuing a PhD on a much greater scale using that experiment as a proof of concept that I am testing on a real-world scale. I am proficient in conducting work in the field and the lab. In the lab I head multi-agency field work surveys, and in lab have a novel mesocosm experiment running. During my journey I have collaborated on published papers, presented my work at conferences, and have peer-reviewed publications in preparation. From conception to design to publication, I can walk you through all the steps to succeed AND communicate your findings.
