About Lecia

For more than 20 years, I have successfully helped students, across the country, dramatically improve their test scores. What makes me an effective teacher is my consistent ability to help my students achieve their target scores or improvements.

My teaching method is custom-built around you.
Lessons are adapted to your particular learning style.
I will help you to strengthen your weaknesses and master time-saving shortcuts to enable you to earn your highest score possible.

I eliminate or lessen the "time pressure" aspect of tests by teaching you how to work smarter. You will learn how to focus on a step-by-step strategy for each question type, instead of on the clock. Working smarter through a mechanical strategy will allow you to finish the test, with more correct answers, and without the usual stress and nerves.

You will increase your confidence level and significantly improve your scores.
I am extremely patient and supportive. I understand the crippling fear of failing the test and know how to refocus that energy into selecting correct responses.
My students typically enjoy a large increase in their scores.
We will work out a specific plan to obtain your target score and then reach beyond it to provide a comfortable safety net.

In addition to helping you improve your test scores, upon request; I will review your essays and provide constructive feedback.

I also offer tutoring on successful approaches to improve your mastery of grammar, phonics, reading, math through pre-algebra, critical thinking, logical reasoning, time management, study and organization skills, and essay writing.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

I have helped ACT students achieve their score goals for more than 20 years. I have also been a 7th and 8th Algebra teacher.

ACT Reading

I have helped ACT students improve their reading comprehension skills, for more than 20 years. I also teach students how to use the answer choices in a strategic manner that improves both their pacing and accuracy. If necessary, I will put the student through a mini bootcamp that discovers and correct fundamental comprehension and grammar gaps.

ACT Science

I have successfully tutored ACT/SAT for more than 15 years.

Algebra 1

I am a former 6th and 7th grade Algebra teacher.

Bible Studies

I have taught bible study seminars at church for more than 20 years. I am currently enrolled in Yale Divinity School. I have completed Old Testament and New Testament courses.

GRE

More than 15 years of successful GRE student improvement.

LSAT

I have helped students achieve their LSAT score goals for more than 20 years.

MCAT

I have successfully tutored this subject more than 10 years. I teach the reading section first because this is the biggest trouble area. Once students master this, they tend to use the techniques on the other sections, as necessary. Knowledge of the hard science subjects is assumed, yet multiple choice answers provide opportunity for process of elimination.
Though I would prefer that future doctors KNOW the relevant scientific subject matter

Phonics

I was trained in the Orton-Gillingham based Phonics system in 2008. For the next two years I advanced from a tutor at a local elementary school to an instructor trainer for school teachers, home school parents, and others who wanted to learn this system. I received certification at the end of my first year. The company has transferred ownership to a larger corporation so I cannot provide anything other than scanned copies of my certificates.

Praxis

I passed the Praxis and was admitted into the Alternative Certification Program in 2004. I am in the bulletin at Gateway Community College in New Haven, CT as the PRAXIS instructor.

Prealgebra

I was a 7th pre-algebra teacher in Alpharetta. I teach the ACT, SAT and all of the graduate prep tests. My students are put through a math bootcamp that uncovers and correct learning gaps.

Proofreading

I have been an essay writing teacher since 2001. I have professionally proofread for business and academic writing for more than 25 years.

Reading

I have helped ACT students achieve their score goals for more than 20 years.

Religion

I have an M.Div. from Yale Divinity School. I am an ordained minister and Certified Bible Teacher (since 1980). I have created curriculum and taught Religious Studies to Church Leadership and seminary students.

SAT Math

I taught 7th AND 8th grade algebra and have helped students improve their math performance on ACT, SAT, GMAT, and GRE standardized tests for more than 20 years.

SAT Reading

I have taught SAT reading for more than 15 years.

Great advice

We looked over strategies for recognizing arguments and how to distinguish the different parts of the argument. I found it helpful the tips she gave for keeping the conclusion in mind to help eliminate answer choices.
