About Lecia

For more than 20 years, I have successfully helped students, across the country, dramatically improve their test scores. What makes me an effective teacher is my consistent ability to help my students achieve their target scores or improvements.

My teaching method is custom-built around you.
Lessons are adapted to your particular learning style.
I will help you to strengthen your weaknesses and master time-saving shortcuts to enable you to earn your highest score possible.

I eliminate or lessen the "time pressure" aspect of tests by teaching you how to work smarter. You will learn how to focus on a step-by-step strategy for each question type, instead of on the clock. Working smarter through a mechanical strategy will allow you to finish the test, with more correct answers, and without the usual stress and nerves.

You will increase your confidence level and significantly improve your scores.
I am extremely patient and supportive. I understand the crippling fear of failing the test and know how to refocus that energy into selecting correct responses.
My students typically enjoy a large increase in their scores.
We will work out a specific plan to obtain your target score and then reach beyond it to provide a comfortable safety net.

In addition to helping you improve your test scores, upon request; I will review your essays and provide constructive feedback.

I also offer tutoring on successful approaches to improve your mastery of grammar, phonics, reading, math through pre-algebra, critical thinking, logical reasoning, time management, study and organization skills, and essay writing.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I have helped students achieve their LSAT score goals for more than 20 years. Using a user-friendly, logical and contextual approach allows students to not just improve but to master the three topics on the test. Strategies taught continue to be relevant and useful during the first year of law school.

I have taught corporate, health care, academic and nonprofit employees to create informative, inspiring and concise PowerPoint presentations. Instruction includes advice on how much to write and how much to script.

I have helped students successfully pass the new revised PSAT. It is very similar to the SAT and, if taught properly, will make the SAT easy to master. Both tests are more conceptual than the ACT, so the skills taught will also allow the student to approach to their high school classes more logically and confidently.

For more than ten years, I have been successful in helping students, K-12 and college level, master reading comprehension. Initially, I conduct a mini grammar boot camp to uncover and correct fundamental learning gaps. I use Orton-Gillingham based phonics techniques for pronunciation, as needed. I also teach the student how to use context and anticipatory clues, to better understand and visualize the passages. This is then transferred into their approach to writing high scoring essays and longer papers.

If necessary, I will put the student through a mini reading/grammar bootcamp to uncover and correct fundamental comprehension and grammar gaps.

SAT Writing

For more than 20 years, I have helped SAT students produce high scoring essays. Proper use of my template approach has never produced a writing score less than 4.5, with most earning a 5 through 6.

Vocabulary

For more than 15 years, I have taught students how to use root words for definitions, prefixes for alterations, and suffixes to determine whether the word is a noun, verb, or modifier. My approach has successfully helped students through graduate school level, dramatically improve their working vocabulary and their ability to discern the meaning of unfamiliar words, through deconstruction.
