Dartmouth College (German Studies)
I am fairly new to the Atlanta area and am eager to begin tutoring German in the Marietta, Roswell and Alpharetta area. I am the child of a German immigrant and was raised with an appreciation for the German language and culture. I began studying German in high school, and went on to major in German Studies at an Ivy League college. Following graduation I spent two years living and working in Hamburg, Germany to polish my language skills. When I returned to the US, I began a career at Lufthansa German Airlines in the Cargo Division, where I served as the Executive Asst. to the Cargo Manager. It was a very rewarding and exciting experience.
I believe that to get the most out of tutoring, students should be prepared to devote at least two hours per week to tutoring sessions. I would appreciate it if students could prepare themselves for the next lesson by reviewing material from the prior lesson. Although much time must be spent on understanding fundamental grammatical concepts, I would also like to work on conversational skills. There is just not enough time for teachers to give students the opportunity to practice speaking while in the classroom.
I am very flexible and am happy to tailor my lessons to my students' needs. I am fairly new to the Atlanta area and am eager to begin tutoring German in the Marietta, Roswell and Alpharetta area. My daughter's teacher recommended that she skip a level of German to get into a higher level course next school year. Kristine has helped ensure that our daughter is well prepared for the higher level course. She has worked with our daughter to master the coursework she would have otherwise skipped over in school and, most importantly, has been instrumental in building up our daughter's confidence level. I highly recommend Kristine. We have been very pleased with her teaching methods, her flexibility and her overall demeanor. My daughter was immediately comfortable with her and has enjoyed their sessions.
Works well with our son. Patient and positive attitude. She pulled him through German class and he is finished now. We highly recommend her. Very knowledgeable.
Kristine has been an excellent tutor for my son, Connor. Upon graduation from high school he was accepted into a German exchange program offered at his college. Connor was then faced with the challenge of learning enough German to allow him to skip his first two colleges courses in that subject. Kristine has worked diligently and patiently with him, meeting him on a regular basis and assigning coursework for him to complete on his own. She has been flexible with her scheduling to accommodate his work schedule. I am happy to say that Connor will begin his freshman year taking sophomore level German classes. I would highly recommend Kristine for tutoring!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I earned my Bachelor's Degree in German Studies from Dartmouth College. I was trained in the Rassias Method of language drill instruction while an undergraduate and used these methods to teach students in beginning German courses. These grammar drills are extremely helpful to anyone who wants to perfect their grammar skills. After finishing college I moved to Hamburg, Germany for two years and taught English to German business professionals which helped me polish my German language skills. Upon my return to the US, I worked as the executive assistant to the regional manager of Lufthansa Cargo at JFK. Most of my written and spoken work was conducted in German on a daily basis.
